Big Twang -- web site mirror

The musical career of Robin Lynn Macy started before the Dixie Chicks (with the group Danger in the Air), and continued after she left the group in 1992. After the Domestic Science Club broke up, Robin returned to her Kansas roots to return to her other love, teaching math.

But from 2000 to 2003, Robin was part of a regional bluegrass band called Big Twang. The group cut one great album, Pastures of Plenty, before the post-9/11 economic slump forced some of the band members to focus on their day jobs. Before long, the group disbanded.

We are playing this weekend in Manhattan, KS and here is an article from the Manhattan Mercury about the upcoming gig. Here's another one from the Kansas State Collegian.

Big Twang would like to say congratulations to our friend Nicole Howerton on her new job. She recently started work for some more friends of ours, the Greteman Group. Nicole did a great job on the graphic design and layout on our CD and this website. She's the best!

Just 18 more shopping days until Christmas! Don't you think a Big Twang CD would make a great stocking stuffer? Come on... Micah needs a new pair of shoes! Or at least cleaner fingernails... but that's another story. BTW, here's OUR Christmas list if you are feeling really generous this year. Santa, are you listening?
  • Robin wants a new guitar that stays in tune (a Collings maybe?).
  • Ken wants a mint-condition L.P. of "George Jones sings Hank Williams".
  • Darren wants a cure for his pesky sleep-apnea (and so does Casey Lynn)
  • Jeff needs a lifetime supply of Nodose and a few dozen banjo students
  • And of course, Troy just wants inner peace and harmony.

OK so it's been a while.... shoot me! We've been very busy of late and I haven't had time to stop and catch my breath. <Whew!>

Winfield was fun. Thanks to all of you who stopped by and caught us there. I'll have to say, Tommy Emmanuel was awesome! He was very entertaining and inspiring. Not only was he a talented musician but a great showman to boot. If you get a chance to, go check him out. I can't wait till he comes back to this area again.

Guthrie was very cold but it was fun to share the stage with such great acts. Don Shorock has some photos from the festival on his website. If you look at the Friday night jam, you'll see Jeff jamming with Jans "Freddie" Krüger. Spooky!

We're playing after the Joan Baez concert tomorrow night. I'll try to find out what she REALLY thinks of Bob Dylan and let you know.

Thanks to every one for coming out to the CD release concert. It was a big milestone for us and we are happy that we have so many great friends to celebrate it with.

I ran across a review for the new CD on the Walnut Valley site. The first one I've seen. We'll be at the Winfield festival next week. Come see us! A big time will be had by all! Check here for our stage times at the festival and a profile.

Still recovering from this weekend... Saturday, after rolling in to Guthrie, OK in my junker, I noticed the bank clock said 105° Whew! We played that night at Byron Berline's Double Stop Fiddle Shop. It went well. I had some really good homemade chocolate pie at intermission then Troy, Jeff and I jammed with Byron's band at the end of the second half. Big fun! Long drive! I'm still exhausted...

The Wichita Eagle's Bud Norman was kind enough to write an article about us. Not only did they put it on the cover of the Sunday Entertainment section, they put a little blurb with Robin's picture right at the top of the front page! Cool! Read it here...
